CHANDLER, AZ – City of Chandler Mayor Boyd Dunn is taking heat for allowing taxpayers buy him a new $32,000 Toyota Camry Hybrid with more than $5,000 in upgrades when the city is facing a budget deficit, according to The Arizona Republic. Upgrades include a moon roof, rear spoiler, XM Radio kit, navigation package, and leather-trimmed seats.

As some council members defend the purchase, records show there was no public discussion of the buy. Dunn said he never asked for a new car, but was advised by the city's fleet services manager to get one because his 2004 Chevrolet Malibu was having maintenance problems. Maintenance records show the car broke down and had to be towed in September, and Dunn said the vehicle recently had a dangerous fuel leak.
