CHARLESTON, WV – The Secretary for the Department of Administration says they’re doing what they can do to reign in fuel costs for state employees with gas prices at more than four dollars a gallon in many parts of West Virginia. Diesel prices are even higher, according to www.wvmetronews.com.

The state currently reimburses employees for use of their private vehicles at a rate of 50.5 cents a mile. The federal reimbursement rate is 58 cents a mile. Secretary Robert Ferguson said it’s more economical if state employees use a state vehicle or opt for a rental car available as part of an established contract.

Ferguson said they are looking at ways to, possibly, bring all state vehicles under one umbrella in an effort to cut vehicle costs. It’s an idea for fleet management that has been under consideration for about two years now.
