PITTSBURGH– Pittsburgh City Council has given final, unanimous approval to a new contract with First Vehicle Services, a Cincinnati-based firm that has been maintaining the city’s 1,000-vehicle fleet since 2005, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

The Council approved the legislation for a $14.5 million, 27-month contract to run the city’s Strip District garage after adding amendments by Councilwoman Darlene Harris that allows the city to cancel the contract with six months’ notice, and demand a fiscal and performance audit of the firm’s work by the city controller.

The 27-month term is designed to expire at the same time as Allegheny County’s pact with First Vehicle, potentially allowing for consolidation of the garages.
