Grand Junction Goes Green to Decrease Consumption

January 2, 2008

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Grand Junction, Colo., will install an E-85 ethanol pump to accommodate the city’s growing fleet of vehicles that can run on either gasoline or ethanol, according to http://www.gjsentinel.com.

The city is focused on making its fleet of vehicles more energy-efficient. This year, it spent nearly $12,000 on an electric car that is used to monitor meters and enforce parking laws downtown and is looking to purchase more for other uses, such as code enforcement and reading water meters. Persigo officials will replace their three gas-powered maintenance vehicles with electric carts.

The city purchased its first vehicle that runs on both ethanol and gasoline in 2001 and has since increased its fleet to 36 vehicles.

Within the next month or two, those vehicles will be able to pump ethanol from an E-85 pump that will be installed at the city shops complex on River Road.
