Man Arrested on Charges of Bombing Police Car

September 5, 2007

ORTING, WA – According to federal agents, a man charged with using a pipe bomb to destroy a police car last year has been arrested, reported the Associated Press.

During a Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Terry Overton, following a routine traffic stop, said Julianne Marshall, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, according to AP.

Overton was indicted on charges of making and possessing an unregistered explosive device, as well as destruction of property by use of explosive. He has pled innocent in the U.S. District Court in Tacoma and remains in federal custody.

The bomb exploded while the cruiser was parked at the Orting police station in July, 2006, according to AP. No one was hurt.

Overton was upset with the town’s police, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Gruber, AP reported. “He had a grudge,” Gruber said. “In fact, he told others that was why he did it.”
