Pima County Vans Being Inspected After Series of Flats

June 13, 2007

TUCSON, AZ – Forty-two county vans operated by Pima County in Arizona are being inspected after a series of flats in May raised concerns there might be issues with their tires, according to the Arizona Daily Star. The action is precautionary and has not disrupted services.

Two vans serving the elderly had flats in May, according to Thomas Burke, the county’s finance and risk management director. The spare tire on one of those vans was also flat.

The vans mostly come from the county’s parks and recreation department, sheriffs department, and general motor pool, where they can be checked out for office use. Sixteen of the vehicles are 15-seat vans. The rest are smaller, seating about eight people.

Some of the vans have already been inspected, but over the next two weeks they will all be rotated through the county’s Fleet Services department where the tires will be checked, and if needed, replaced, according to the Arizona Daily Star.
