LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Police Department is going to install digital video cameras in its patrol cars, according to the Web site www.nbc4.tv. The city will spend about $5 million to install the first cameras in 300 cars. Within four years, all 1,600 patrol cars citywide are expected to have the equipment.
The video cameras will help hold officers accountable for their conduct and protect them against false accusations. Beverly Hills Police Department and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department already use the cameras.
