ANDERSON, SC – The city of Anderson has joined a growing number of South Carolina communities that are fueling their fleets with biodiesel, according to the Anderson Independent Mail. The city switched to the alternative fuel late last year.

Several other cities, including Greenville and Rock Hill, also have converted to the fuel, which is a blend of petroleum-based diesel and a by-product of domestic soybean oils. The city is using B-20 — a mixture of 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum-based diesel.

Biodiesel is being used in all the city’s diesel vehicles, except fire apparatus. According to the report, in the future, the city could convert to E-85, a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent conventional fuel.
