CHATTANOOGA, TN – The Tennessee Transportation Department has expanded the use of biodiesel in its vehicles to Chattanooga and Cookeville, according to the Web site www.wmcstations.com. Department spokeswoman Jennifer Osborne said that T-DOT first started used biodiesel in trucks in the Knoxville area in December 2005 to test the fuel under winter conditions.
Now, the department is using B-20 in 47 T-DOT vehicles in Chattanooga and Cookeville. The blend is 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent standard diesel fuel. The department plans to switch its vehicles in Nashville over to biodiesel by the end of March and put the fuel into use in the Jackson and Memphis districts later in the spring.
All T-DOT diesel trucks should be burning it by the end of the year.
