PHOENIX, AZ – On Oct. 13, Maricopa County was awarded the Valley Forward’s Environmental Excellence Award, (Environmental Technologies; Public Sector) for their B-20 biodiesel initiative (Preserving the Future With Biodiesel). Maricopa County is one of the fastest-growing populations in the country, and as a large fleet service provider, the county provides fuel for the operation of county equipment and several other agencies, dispensing more than a million gallons of diesel fuel every year.

Maricopa County is also committed to ensuring the quality of life in the provision of those services, specifically as they relate to air quality and the environment. “By developing an incremental plan to gradually blend biodiesel in stages, the County minimized maintenance concerns associated with the transition to biodiesel and dispelled reservations among potential users,” said John Cantu, equipment services director for Maricopa County.
