SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City has bought a new three-wheeled scooter for its, and offered an additional four. The vehicles operate like motorcycles without seats. Powered by batteries, the vehicles are produced by California-based American Chariot. Their purpose is to combat pollution. They use two 12-volt batteries. By comparison, the parking enforcers’ Subarus each consume 630 gallons of gas a year. As the Chariots are acquired, the Subarus will be phased out. The move furthers the city’s shift to be more environmentally responsible. For example, parking employees also drive three-wheeled Gophers, which have smaller engines than cars, consuming 320 gallons of gas a year.
