ISELIN, NJ – Nearly 250 police fleet managers from across the United States and Canada tested their driving skills and competed in timed driving events during the recent annual conference and trade show for the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). The conference, featuring police-specific fleet management courses and events for NAFA’s Law Enforcement Group (LEG), also debuted the NAFA LEG Roadeo. The Roadeo was a series of driving skills tests, demonstrations, and hands-on activities specifically for police fleet managers and law enforcement personnel. Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors all supplied vehicles, enabling attendees to get behind the wheel and test not only their driving skills, but the vehicles’ capabilities. Will Massey, CFM/CAFM, chair of the NAFA Law Enforcement Group, said, “This was the best driving event I have ever experienced in my 15 years attending LEG conferences. There was nothing but positive feedback from everyone I talked to.” Law enforcement personnel benefited from this event by having the opportunity to safely push police cars to their limits on a closed course. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Training Facility proved to be an excellent testing ground for the event, which featured precision motorcycle driving, tire spike demonstrations, and mobile transportation systems. The Roadeo was sponsored by Federal Signal, Whelen Engineering, Code Three, and Harley Davidson.
