DENTON, TEXAS – The city of Denton has adopted the use of biodiesel in its city vehicles, according to the Daily Light newspaper. The city has constructed a new biodiesel production facility, located at the city’s landfill, and operated by Biodiesel Industries of Greater Dallas/Fort Worth. The facility is the first public/private collaboration of its kind in the nation. The plant has an initial production capacity to produce three million gallons of pure biodiesel per year and is powered by renewable biogas, extracted from the adjacent landfill. Denton will fuel its diesel vehicle fleet with B-20, a blend of 80-percent diesel and 20-percent biodiesel produced by the production facility. The city’s fleet-wide use of biodiesel is estimated to reduce criteria emissions from its vehicles by up to 12 tons per year.
