CORVALIS, OR — Five Toyota Prius hybrids and 12 new Ford Tauruses, which run on up to 85 percent ethanol, have been added to the Oregon State University (OSU) motorpool fleet, according to the Daily Barometer. The fleet of 284 vehicles now includes 18 cars that use alternative-fuel sources. The gasoline-electric hybrid Toyota Prius, which burns less fuel than most new cars and obtains roughly 50 miles per gallon, cost OSU about $22,000. The new Ford Taurus cars — which burn regular fuel or a mixture of up to 85 percent ethanol fuel — cost about $12,500 each and get about 25 miles per gallon.
