ASBURY PARK, NJ — Monmouth County will auction off 53 vehicles in late-October, according to the Asbury Park Press. Last month, 69 Monmouth County employees — including most depart-ment heads — were told they will no longer be permitted to use all-expenses-paid county vehicles to commute to work. The county returned those 69 cars to the fleet and is auctioning off older-model cars. The reduction of 69 cars from the county’s “take-home” fleet leaves 179 employees who still are provided trans-portation to and from work. The county pays all fuel, maintenance, and insurance costs for the cars. The 69 employees who can no longer use county cars for commuting to work will be able to use publicly owned vehicles during business hours.
