BOSTON — Boston Mayor Thomas Menino recently test-drove a hybrid SUV around Government Plaza to promote the city’s planned mass conversion to a more fuel-efficient fleet of cars, according to the Boston Herald.

As part of an effort to save energy, Menino said he’s giving up his full-size SUV for a smaller, more fuel-efficient car. Meanwhile, the mayor ordered the changeover of 450 city cars that now run on diesel fuel to more efficient bio-diesel.

According to the Boston Herald article, Menino also vowed that, soon, all new cars purchased by the city must be either hybrids or use alternative fuels, with a goal to reduce energy consumption by up to 10 percent.
