POLK COUNTY, FL – Polk County is joining other municipalities in the fight against pollution by receiving five hybrid Ford Escapes, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The county paid about $24,600 for each of the hybrid sport utility vehicles to be used in multiple departments. Besides saving money on fuel, the county hopes to save money on maintenance costs. The Escape doesn't need its oil changed as often as a traditional vehicle, and county officials hope the SUVs will also show a longer than average brake life.
