Dutchess County Legislature Advises on Buying Alt-Fuel Vehicles

May 25, 2005

MIDDLETOWN, NY – The Dutchess County Legislature is on record requesting that when county agencies buy new vehicles, they consider purchasing alternative-fuel vehicles, according to the Website, www.midhudsonnews.com. Democrat Legislator William McCabe said the argument that they are cost-prohibitive no longer holds, and Democrat Minority Leader Roger Higgins said it would set a good example for towns, villages, and school districts. Efforts are already under way, going beyond county government, to look at saving energy, according to Republican Majority Leader Noreen Reilly. The request directs the county executive and director of general services to "consider and implement a program for county purchasing that would incorporate alternative fuels and/or electric vehicles into the county's fleet of vehicles."
