BOSTON – Boston officials are scrambling to find employees responsible for racking up parking violations while using city vehicles, according to the Boston Herald. A review by the Herald found municipal employees received 467 tickets worth more than $26,000 since Sept. 1, 2004. Almost all have gone unpaid. According to the city, workers are allowed to park at meters, loading zones and resident spots while on the job. They are required to pay their own tickets for such public safety violations as blocking handicapped spots, hydrants, crosswalks, and no stopping/standing zones. The city has only collected $735 from city workers. Some employees owe more than $2,000. Transportation officials will start sending department heads violation reports every three months to track offenders and provide workers with maps of legal parking spots. School bus drivers may also face disciplinary action for vehicles left unattended in illegal parking spots, according to school officials.
