HONOLULU - Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann is going to buy 40 new squad cars, but police officials say they need more, according to the Honolulu Star Bulletin. Hannemann mentioned the budget request in his State of the City address. Police officials also say they need 11 replacement motorcycles to help with traffic. Assistant Chief Karl Godsey stated that the shortage in the department worsened when 81 three-wheeled Go-4 police vehicles were grounded in 2001 because of safety concerns. No replacement vehicles were bought for the Go-4s.
