AUBURN, NY – In Cayuga County, the legislature's Government Operations Committee is asking department heads to justify why some of their employees should be able to take county-owned vehicles home, according to the Citizen. Department heads that feel their employees should be able to take a vehicle home must submit a written request to their oversight committee and the Ways and Means Committee for approval under the draft policy. Requests must be renewed each year. The current policy specifies departments whose employees may take vehicles home. According to Government Operations Chair Peter Tortorici, the county could save money from routine maintenance and upkeep for its fleet, which includes about 75 vehicles.
