DES MOINES, IA – A proposal to buy land to house maintenance and repair shops for city vehicles has been delayed, according to the Des Moines Register. Des Moines City Council members have decided not to buy land for the facility until 2007 and have set aside $160,000 to reroof the current public works headquarters and maintenance building.

The Capital Improvement Citizen Committee recommended putting away $140,000 for a building that could provide parking along with shops for the fleet of city cars, trucks, and other equipment.

The $140,000 was proposed to just buy the land. The amount of land is still in question. City Manager Jeff Pomeranz stated that officials put off buying land because the details of which departments and agencies would participate, and how much each would pay had not been decided yet.
