LINCOLN PARK, MI – Mayor Steve Brown's city-issued 1999 Sable has been the focus of a lot of attention over the last several weeks, forcing him to turn in the car, according to the News-Herald.

Mayor Brown ended the debate of whether or not he should receive the perk of a free city car when he cleaned out the vehicle and handed the keys back to the city. The issue grew from city council members who voted to do away with city-issued telephones as a way to cut costs. Soon after voting, Councilwoman Valerie Brady proposed to take away the mayor's car as another solution to save the city money.

The city will save about $3,700 a year, but Brown says that the charges would only be for gas, repairs, and insurance since the car is already paid for.
