Anderson County Director Proposes Plan to Save Money

February 8, 2005

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC – Holt Hopkins, Anderson County (S.C.) transportation division director, has proposed to make each individual department in the county pay "rent" on the true cost of vehicles they use rather than owning them outright, according to the Anderson Independent-Mail.

Under the plan, each department would be given a separate vehicle budget. The departments would be charged by the day, week, or month for vehicle use. Spare vehicles would no longer be needed to guard against budget cutbacks because the rent would be "banked" to enable immediate purchases, according to Hopkins.
