MARICOPA COUNTY, AZ – The Maricopa County Sheriff wanted a "sharper" image for his patrol cars. So deputies will start driving new black cruisers and sport utility vehicles starting next year, according to the Web site, www.azcentral.com/ on December 11.
Officials expect it will take two or three years before all their vehicles are black instead of white. The department has ordered 69 black Ford Crown Victorias and other vehicles to add to the fleet of 300 white vehicles.
There´s no extra cost to go black. The cars will keep the same style of markings, but they will change colors from brown to gold. Residents may start seeing the new vehicles in February. The Maricopa County Sheriff said he wanted the vehicles to stand out.
