WASHINGTON - The newly elected chairman of the Governors Highway Safety Association said he plans to use his position to bring attention to the impact of drowsy driving on police officers, according to the Web site www.truckinginfo.com. Col. Jim Champagne said this is "an emerging highway safety issue" that needs to be addressed. As officers continue to work more overtime hours, their chances of having an accident due to sleep deprivation increase, said Champagne. Champagne´s comments were among the topics he listed as priorities for the association.
