HOLLYWOOD, FL – Although garbage trucks can carry all manner of trash, the advertisements on the sides must be in good taste, according to Hollywood City commissioners, reported the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Advertising space will be sold on the sides of Hollywood’s 36 sanitation trucks as a way to raise money for the city. However, the city has discretion about what can be marketed and has prohibited topless bars, tattoo parlors, adult emporiums, and pawnshops. According to the Sun-Sentinel, the city would stand to gain more than $100,000 a year through a 60 percent cut of the ad sales, and up to $729,000 over five years. Some city commissioners expressed concern about allowing advertising on city-owned vehicles, but the ads were approved in a 4-3 vote.
