FORT WAYNE, IN — Fort Wayne city officials say they’ll have to spend nearly $300,000 more than expected on gasoline this year, reported the Associated Press. City Fleet Manager Larry Campbell said gas prices were expected to reach between $1.20 and $1.25, but have increased to as much as $1.50, according to the AP. Bulk purchasing rates and exemptions to the federal excise tax and state sales tax allow the city to pay less than consumers. The additional costs will be taken from the city’s general fund, Campbell told the AP.
