COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The College Park City Council will seek to add at least one gas-electric hybrid vehicle to its fleet beginning next fiscal year, according to the University of Maryland’s newspaper, The Diamondback. A new gas-electric hybrid would likely replace one of the older vehicles in the city fleet, said Assistant to the City Manager Noah Simon. According to District 3 Councilman Eric Olson, about $20,000 was set aside in the Department of Public Works’ 2005 budget for purchasing a hybrid car. While the city will only seek one new hybrid car this year, Olson said that he plans to propose a policy steering the city toward purchasing more hybrids as older vehicles are replaced.
