TOLEDO, OHIO – The Toledo City Council, in an effort to balance the city budget, is considering delaying the purchase of police cars and fire engine replacements, said City Manager Pete Wall in a article in the Toledo News-Times. "We could squeeze more years out of them, maybe," Wall is reported as saying. "But you need reliable cars. And we've already been buying used cars to stretch it out." Toledo Mayor Sharon Branstiter is opposed to delaying police vehicle and fire engine replacements. "I cannot tolerate the idea of compromising public safety. We can't compromise fire, or decrease the police there by one," she said.
