CLARKSTOWN, NY – The Town of Clarkstown recently appointed Dennis Malone in the newly created position of fleet manager of the Town Garage Department. The Town Board appointed Malone on Sept. 4.

Clarkstown had three separately-managed garages: Police, Highway Department, and Mini Trans. Malone was the transportation supervisor for Mini Trans, where he was in charge of the 12-vehicle fleet and the transportation system for the Town. Malone now manages a consolidated fleet of 400 units.

According to Malone, the Town Board considered and approved the consolidation after he showed them the millions in savings he had achieved at the Mini Trans garage, partly achieved by doubling the life of the buses through thorough maintenance. In the past eight years, Malone has decreased his budget.

Savings from the consolidation “will be substantial, but like anything else, it takes time to make everything work the right away,” Malone said.

Mini Trans and Police previously reported, separately, to the Town Board and supervisor. The consolidation brings the Highway Department fleet under Malone’s supervision, which means the town’s entire fleet is now under the control of the Town Board and supervisor.

Malone had been the Town’s transportation supervisor for 14 years. He previously owned a private shop for 25 years.
