LAFAYETTE, CO - Boulder Electric Vehicle hosted a facility tour for GFX attendees on June 18. The electric vehicle automaker’s CEO Carter Brown and a staff member led two groups of about 50 fleet professionals through the plant, explaining steps in the manufacturing process.
In addition to use by parcel delivery companies, public agencies have found a use for the vehicle as bookmobiles and for use in utilities. Currently, the build time for the vehicle is about a week.
Brown said the eventual production goal is 7,500 vehicles per year at the Boulder plant and 4,000 per year for a plant in Los Angeles that has yet to be completed. Fleets order directly with Boulder EV.
The cost for the vehicle is $120,000 for the DV-500 model, and less if purchasing through the GSA contract. With a use rate of 100 miles per day/5 days per week at the current diesel price, Brown said return on investment is three years.
The vehicle charges overnight for eight hours using a 220V charger.
The tour ended with a ride-and-drive of the van.
