Lake County, Ind., could soon consolidate its vehicle maintenance, creating a central motor pool for vehicles and bringing in some maintenance work that is currently outsourced, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The county commissioner championing the proposal said the consolidation and new motor pool will save money on fuel, reduce maintenance costs, and help move toward a more regular vehicle replacement plan. The Sheriff's Department currently oversees operations for the county's fleet, and most maintenance work is done by outside companies.
It is unknown how much money is expected to be saved annually with the plan, and savings are not likely to be seen immediately.
