The Fall River (Mass.) Fire Department has received a $4.9 million federal loan to purchase fire equipment, including six new fire trucks, reports The Herald News. The loan comes from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development block grant program.

The city plans to purchase $4.99 million worth of equipment over a three-year period, including six fire trucks, that will go to four fire stations in low-income neighborhoods.

According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development website, the department provides block grants to 1,209 local government and state units each year.
