The Albuquerque (N.M.) Police Department has purchased 139 Ford Police Interceptor Utility SUVs to replace its Dodge Chargers. Officers can transport two criminals at once and train officers more easily with larger vehicles.

The SUVs are part of the department's efforts to change their image, as the white Explorers will appear friendlier than the mostly black Chargers did, reports to the Albuquerque Journal

The department also bought Chevrolet Silverado trucks for police service aids and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans for crime scene investigators.
