Terex South Dakota is recalling 440 2016 model-year HR, HRX, LT, LTM, TL, TC, and TCX aerial devices because they’re at risk for unexpected boom rotation or winch movement, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The problem is tied to a hydraulic motor whose shaft may fail. The recall covers aerial devices manufactured Jan. 1 to May 12 of this year.

“Unexpected boom rotation or winch movement may increase the risk of injury,” NHTSA said on its website.

Terex South Dakota will instruct owners to inspect the hydraulic motor. Motors within a certain serial number range will be replaced, free of charge.

The recall begins this month. Aerial device owners can reach Terex South Dakota customer service at (800) 982-8975. The company’s number for this recall is SN641.
