McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing is recalling 729 2012-2015 model-year Atlantic, Pacific, Contender and Ultra front-loader refuse trucks equipped with an optional hydraulic test port tube.

These test port tubes allow the checking of hydraulic system pressures and the taking of hydraulic fluid samples. However, they might crack or break, permitting hydraulic fluid to contact hot exhaust and turbo components. This condition poses a fire risk, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

The recall covers trucks manufactured from March 2, 2012, to Oct. 14 of this year.

To fix the problem, McNeilus dealers will remove the optional hydraulic test port tube and and cap off the hydraulic test inlet port. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall is expected to begin Nov. 30. Truck owners can reach McNeilus customer service at (888) 686-7278. McNeilus’ number for this recall is VSR-TSB-014.
