The City of Phoenix will implement LoJack Corp.'s GPS-based telematics system in its on-road vehicle fleet to operate a more efficient fleet, the company has announced.

The city has chosen LoJack Fleet Management powered by TomTom to "achieve a wide range of operational efficiencies," according to a LoJack release.

The city will add "thousands of units" of LoJack hardware to reduce fuel costs by optimizing routing, provide driver feedback to increase safety, improve dispatching so the closest vehicle arrives at a job site, and activate security alerts when a vehicle leaves a pre-set area. The system also offers a WebFleet mobile app that lets fleet managers see their vehicles on a map.

LoJack announced the move on Nov. 6 as part of its quarterly earnings release.
