The City of Birmingham (Ala.) will spend $1.9 million to purchase new police and fire vehicles with funds netted from a surplus created because fuel costs were substantially lower than projected, reports AL.com.
The City Council on Aug. 25 voted to transfer the money from a fund for fuel expenses to a fund for purchase of new vehicles in the 2016 budget.
The police department will add 30 market vehicles, 15 unmarked vehicles, and several motorcycles.
