Ford Motor Co. is recalling 16,091 2014 model-year Ford Transit Connect vehicles because the safety belt fasteners may not have been tightened properly during assembly, the automaker said.

Over time, the safety belt fasteners may loosen and malfunction, posing a safety risk. However, Ford said it is unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the condition.

The recall covers certain Transit Connect vans built from Nov. 6, 2013, to Sept. 20, 2014, at the Valencia Assembly Plant. All are located in the U.S.

Dealers will replace and properly tighten the safety belt fasteners, and also replace and torque the cargo tie-downs in the cargo area. There will be no charge for this service.
