The redesigned 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe rear-wheel pursuit vehicle and four-wheel special service vehicle have shipped to law enforcement agencies, General Motors has announced.

The newly introduced all-wheel Tahoe PPV will ship in the fall as the third offering in the Tahoe lineup for police fleets, said Robert Wheeler, a GM spokesman.

The Tahoe PPV and SSV follow GM's redesign of its mid-size SUV for the 2015 model year. Both vehicles get a new EcoTec 5.3-liter V-8 engine that provides 355 hp, an 11 percent boost from the 2014 model. The vehicle will also offer greater fuel economy, according to GM.

"The new Tahoe will get an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway," said Dana Hammer, manager of law enforcement vehicles. "That's a nearly 10-percent increase in highway and 7 percent in city compared to previous models."

The 2015 Tahoe is also getting electric power steering, greater body stiffness, suspension improvements, and a wider track for greater stability. Rear park assist and and back-up camera now come standard.
