West Va. Task Force Says State Should Convert Vehicles to Natural Gas and Propane Autogas

A new report from the State of West Virginia’s Natural Gas Vehicle Task Force says the State should transition part of its fleet to natural gas and its bus fleet to propane autogas.

United Government Converts Fleet to Propane-Autogas

The Unified Government (UG) of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, is converting 13 paratransit buses and two pickup trucks to run on propane-autogas. With these conversions, the UG expects to save at least $100,000 in annual fuel costs.

Colorado Senate Passes Bill Requiring Alt-Fuel Fleet Vehicle Purchases for State Entities

Colorado Senate Bill 13-070 requires State entities to purchase vehicles that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG), or other alternative fuels, as long as the increased cost of the vehicle is not more than 10% of the cost of a comparable dedicated petroleum vehicle.

Ram Truck to Offer Diesel Engine for 2014 Ram 1500

Chrysler’s Ram Truck brand plans to offer a small-displacement diesel engine for its 2014 model-year Ram 1500 pickup truck. The automaker said the engine will be a new 3.0L V-6 EcoDiesel.

Little Rock to Refurbish Fire Truck

The City of Little Rock, Ark., Fleet Services and Fire departments have decided to refurbish a reserve aerial fire apparatus. The cost of refurbishing the unit is $250,000; a new unit would cost between $850,000 and $1 million.

Germantown, Tenn., Constructing New Fleet Services Facility

The City of Germantown, Tenn., broke ground on a new fleet maintenance facility on Jan. 23. The new facility is east of the City’s existing public services complex. The City stated construction should be complete by October.

Alvarado Moves to Tacoma Public Utilities

Thomson to Retire from City of Salem, Ore.

Don Thomson, CAFM, will retire from the City of Salem, Ore., March 31. He is the City’s fleet/warehouse superintendent and is responsible for providing and maintaining all fleet equipment used by City departments.

Detroit Diesel Approves EcoPower Heavy-Duty Diesel 10W-30 CJ-4/SM

Safety-Kleen Systems announced Feb. 11 that Detroit Diesel has approved EcoPower Heavy-Duty Diesel 10W-30 CJ-4/SM for use in Detroit Diesel engines.

The City of Columbus will have a total of 64 CNG units in service in total by year-end 2013. Out of that number, 18 will be CNG automated side loaders.

The City of Columbus, Ohio, plans to place an additional 44 dedicated CNG units into service by the end of 2013. Columbus is also currently building a second CNG fueling site located on the north side of the city.

Santa Barbara PD Gets New In-Vehicle Cameras

Twenty-eight patrol vehicles in the City of Santa Barbara (Calif.) Police Department fleet are getting video cameras installed in an effort to protect the department from liability, according to Noozhawk.
