NEW YORK CITY - Robert S. Martinez, former director Fleet Services Division New York City Police Department (NYPD), was promoted to Executive Director Support Services Bureau. The NYPD operates more than 9,000 vehicles.

In this new role, Martinez provides logistical and technical support to all units of the NYPD and services the public through the operations of fleet services division, property clerk division, central records and printing section.

Under Martinez's leadership, the NYPD has earned a spot on the 100 Best Fleets listing three years in a row and was named the 27th best Green Fleet in North America for 2009. Last year,  his department reduced fuel consumption by 611,000 gallons, equivalent to an annual reduction of more than 6,000 tons of greenhouse gasses.

Martinez earned a bachelor of technology in electro-mechanical engineering from New York City Technical College, as well as a Master of Science from New York University graduate school of Public Service while employed in the fleet department. He started as an auto service worker in 1987.
