Autauga County Sheriff’s Office to Install Computers in Patrol Cars

November 24, 2009

PRATTVILLE, AL - New computers in Autauga County Sheriff's Office patrol cars will enable officers to complete reports in the field and spend more time on the road, according to the Montgomery Advertiser.

A federal COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) grant is funding the purchase of about $30,000 worth of computers, enough to outfit half the patrol cars in the fleet. The department is working on getting another grant for computers for the rest of the fleet, Sheriff Herbie Johnson told the Advertiser.

Johnson said it will save deputies trips back to the office to do paper work at the end of the shift. "Our officers can stay in the field more," Johnson said. "It will improve our visibility in the community and add to our patrol time."

Dashboard cameras are next on the Sheriff's Office wish list, reported the Advertiser.
