Toyota remains the leader of New Zealand car rental with a 17% marketshare, reports Stuff.co.nz. Ford and Holden followed with 10% and 8%, respectively.

The OEM continued its lead in New Zealand's rental car share from 2017, where it held the market with 29% of passenger and SUV rental registrations. Holden held the second-highest marketshare with 8%.

The Toyota Corolla was the most popular rental passenger car in the country during January, with 696 vehicles registered for rental out of 958 cars sold. RAV4s are also popular, selling 209 rental units in January.

Toyota also maintained a leading 14% share in the passenger and SUV market, and 23% in the commercial market.

New vehicle registrations in New Zealand were down 2% from February of last year.
