Washington Governor Jay Inslee announced the state has purchased 130 long-range electric vehicles (EVs), which can travel more than 200 miles on a single charge. This brings the state’s electric vehicle count to 250.

According to a statement from the Department of Enterprises, the EVs will improve Washington's air quality by each emitting 2.3 to 3.3 fewer metric tons of carbon emissions annually over hybrid-electric options.

This purchase is in compliance with a state law that requires passenger vehicles used by state agencies to be low- or zero-emission options to the extent feasible.

Local governments are invited to purchase battery-electric and hybrid vehicles through the state contract, which include seven passenger vehicles as well as forklifts, buses, and trucks.
