BIRMINGHAM, AL – Jefferson County's proposed budget cuts include reducing fleet size, cutting jobs, and eliminating departments, according to CBS42.

Fleet will be cut by $250,000 based on the proposed outline.

Departments cut, according to CBS, will be:

  •  The Office of Senior Citizen Services.
  • Jefferson County Rehabilitation and Health (County Nursing Home).
  • Economic Development.
  • The County Laundry Facility.
  •  Inspection Services.
  •  Land Development.


The county will save an additional $24.8 million by terminating discretionary contracts. Other actions taken will involve closing four satellite courthouses, not opening the new Bessemer courthouse, cutting tuition reimbursement, and cutting road maintenance for all county cities, according to CBS.
