Tracer Products offers its new TP-9364 PRO-Alert 2791 electronic vehicle refrigerant leak detector. This device meets the new SAE J2791 standard, according to the company. It uses an infrared sensor to detect refrigerant leaks down to 0.1oz/year (3 g/year), Tracer stated.

Sensor life is more than 1,000 hours, Tracer said, and its air sampling pump provides quicker response and faster clearing (“zeroing”). The company added that this device will not become contaminated by exposure to large amounts of refrigerant.

A three-position sensitivity switch minimizes false triggering and allows for diagnosis of small, medium, and large leaks. The unit is sensitive to R-12, R-134a, R-1234yf and all other HFC refrigerants, according to Tracer.

The device is powered by a rechargeable NiMH battery that provides more than six hours of use between charges. On-board diagnostics indicate charging status, and alert the user to low battery or infrared sensor failure. The unit can also be used with an AC power adapter and a 12-volt DC power adapter with cigarette lighter plug (included). All components are packed in a plastic carrying case. The AC adapter is available in 120-volt, 230-volt, 240-volt, and 100-volt versions.
