SANTA FE, NM - Newly inaugurated New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez is asking departments to look into how many cars they operate and what their uses are. She has already announced a moratorium on the purchase of new state vehicles, with the exception of law enforcement vehicles, according to The New Mexican.

These efforts have been taken to lower State spending. The governor asked for justification on employee use of take-home vehicles.

The state's fleet includes thousands of vehicles managed by a variety of agencies that have varying rules on vehicle use, according to the newspaper.
