SAN DIEGO - John Alley, CAFM, has been hired as assistant vehicle maintenance manager for King County Metro-Transit in Seattle. Prior to this, Alley was deputy director - Fleet Services Division of the General Services Dept. for the City of San Diego. The Fleet Services Division's 240-member staff manages and services more than 4,000 vehicles. Alley has worked for the City of San Diego since 1999.

Alley's last day with the City of San Diego will be Dec. 23. Until a new deputy director is formally appointed, the City will rotate its three fleet managers (Steve Shipkowski, Gary Timm, and Dave Henselmeier) every two weeks until a replacement has been selected and named.

Alley was named 2010 Public Sector Fleet Manager of the Year by Government Fleet magazine. He is a retired full colonel who served 30 years in the U.S. Army. Following his military retirement and prior to being hired by the City of San Diego, Alley was the fleet manager for the Washington State Patrol.
